As Clinic Manager, Liam plays a crucial role in the delivery of exceptional care to our patients in Cardiff and Swansea. Working closely together with all members of his team, he provides them with the day-to-day support needed to help them feel confident within their roles, in turn ensuring that every patient is greeted with passion, enthusiasm, and the highest level of product knowledge.
This involvement with his team and their development is one of Liam’s favourite aspects of his role as clinic manager. As he is responsible for recruiting, coaching and supporting all staff members, he gets to witness how they progress throughout their career at Optical Express. “I love to see how my team members develop. I get a lot of enjoyment from seeing someone come on who is quite new, into an environment that can be quite intimidating. Certainly if someone joins the business who comes from outside of a clinical or an optical environment, it can be quite scary to start, but we all work closely with them and I love seeing how they develop in their role and the confidence that they gain,” he explains.
Besides getting a lot of fulfilment from helping his team progress and develop, Liam also gets to play an important part in patients’ life-changing journeys towards visual freedom. Overseeing the day-to-day operations in his clinics, he ensures that everyone works together to provide patients with the best possible care and exceptional visual results. “That’s fundamentally what we’re all here to do, provide an exceptional service, product, and care for all of our patients, which we execute really successfully as a business. So, seeing the result of essentially the work we put in to achieve that is really rewarding,” he says.
The inclusive and collaborative environment at Optical Express is something Liam finds very unique in the industry. “What makes a career at Optical Express different to a lot of other places is that your time in your role is very collaborative. In other businesses I’ve been part of there’s a huge focus on what you can do yourself alone, whereas here we don’t compromise on what the individual achieves, but what is certainly different here is we seal our success through collaboration,” he explains. This is something he emphasises and encourages in his own clinics as well, ensuring that everyone works together as part of a core team to collectively strive for excellence, respecting and supporting each other along the way.
Throughout his career at Optical Express, Liam has felt extremely fortunate to have been able to play a part in changing the lives of so many of his patients. Seeing and supporting them after their surgery, he gets to witness the major impact that vision correction treatment can have on people’s confidence and their quality of life, commenting: “Some of the best things we’ve heard after surgery is that some people have relied on this treatment for their dream career. It is essential that they have vision at a certain level, and without it they can’t do the job that they’ve dreamed of their entire life. Because they have come to see us at Optical Express and been treated by us, they then go on and pursue that career, and to have been a part of that is really rewarding.” Are you ready to take on a new challenge?
