You will work alongside our expert Ophthalmologists as part of our refractive and cataract surgery multidisciplinary clinical teams, meaning you’ll be involved in leading edge practice, learning from some of the country’s leading specialists in clinical eye care. There will be a requirement for flexibility to work at our other clinics on a regular basis (all expenses will be covered by Optical Express).

As an Ophthalmic Nurse at Optical Express, you will play a crucial role in the provision of outstanding outpatient clinic activities including minor operations, general ophthalmology and cataract surgery pre-assessments. You will work collaboratively with our team of ophthalmologists, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure the delivery of comprehensive eye care services.

Your role will include:

• Undertaking pre and post-operative consultations for our cataract surgery patients.
• Conduct thorough assessments of patients presenting with various ophthalmic conditions.
• Providing clinical support to our ophthalmologists in general and oculoplastic clinics.
• Order and interpret diagnostic tests, such as visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and OCT scans.
• Formulate and implement individualised care plans, including treatment and follow-up.
• Perform preoperative assessments for patients scheduled for cataract surgery.
• Collaborate with surgical teams to ensure optimal patient preparation and coordination.
• Educate patients on preoperative and postoperative care instructions.

The ideal candidate will:

• Registered General Nurse with current NMC registration.
• Proven experience in outpatient clinic activities and cataract surgery pre-assessment.
• Strong clinical and diagnostic skills in ophthalmology.
• Be passionate about delivering excellent patient care.
• Be articulate, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Be confident and organised.
• Be happy to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
