At 19, I’d had a few jobs, but was looking for something with a technical aspect that I could make a career out of. When the chance to become an Optical Assistant at Optical Express arose, I applied straight away.
That was in 2008. I started at Shipley and liked the job immediately, learning how to conduct patient consultations and building up our refractive figures. After covering at Preston as a Patient Advisor, I was given the role there. 18 months later, I moved to the Leeds store, motivated to be the best PA in the region.
Optical Express offered to pay for my dispensing optician course, and I started studying with three colleagues at Bradford College. We graduated in December 2015, and I was subsequently promoted to Regional Manager Designate. It was a steep learning curve and I needed a lot of coaching from senior management in order to become more confident in what I was doing. After a lot of hard work I became Regional Manager earlier this year, looking after my region’s performance in everything from sales to security and from audits to banking.
I really believe that, without the support and investment that Optical Express has given me, I wouldn’t have been able to live up to my potential.
Our store teams across the UK and Ireland are the public face of Optical Express. Comprising full and part-time roles including Dispensing Optician, Area Manager, Store Manager, Assistant Store Manager, Patient Advisor, Optical Advisor, Receptionist and Cleaner, in each of our branches the close-knit team works together to provide exemplary customer service and ensure the smooth-running of their store.
