Shirley-Anne joined our bustling recruitment team last February, and hasn’t looked back. As an Optometrist Recruitment Specialist, it’s Shirley-Anne’s job to match talented optometrists to the vacancies that arise around our vast clinic and store network around the UK and Ireland.
“Optometry recruitment is an industry like no other I have worked in,” Shirley-Anne smiles. “Optometrists have a very unique skill set, so it’s been really rewarding placing very talented candidates into the amazing roles that we have and to watch them flourish.”
Shirley-Anne graduated with a degree in Business Management with Marketing and German 12 years ago and recruitment wasn’t necessarily the most obvious choice but it’s a career that suits Shirley-Anne’s vivacious personality.
Initially drawn to a career in sales, she didn’t like the idea of directly selling objects. “I see my career in recruitment as a non-direct sales role.” She explains, going on to add, “It’s about selling a role or company to a candidate and involves plenty of interaction and engagement. I love matching candidates with their dream job; it’s my way of bringing some good to the world.”
Shirley-Anne speaks enthusiastically about the amazing opportunities available to optometrists when they join Optical Express. “I say it a lot, but it’s true. The clinical development opportunities we offer our optometrists are second to none, as is our investment in technology.”
Those reasons alone are extremely enticing to ambitious optometrists, yet there’s more. “Optical Express is unique in that we can offer a real variety in workload to optometrists, as we also have a refractive side of the business. I know of plenty of people in the business that have joined as optometrists and now specialise in refractive.” She says. “And if that’s not all, we also offer all of our optometrists the Independent Prescribing qualification. The opportunities here are really just unparalleled to anywhere else in this industry.”
She makes a credible case for working at Optical Express. So what does Shirley-Anne herself enjoy most about working here?
“I feel that I have a voice here and that I am listened to, and that really makes a difference. There’s a real open door policy, everyone is friendly and approachable and decisions get made quickly due to the structure of the business. I have met and worked with some fabulous people during my time here and hope to meet many more!”
