In 2007, I started my Optical Express journey and in the years since then I’ve never looked back.
I’ve learned so much. When I joined the company, I spent time being trained by industry experts to become a Specialist Refractive Optometrist, which meant I was working alongside excellent surgeons who are leaders in their field. It’s an opportunity I was so grateful to be given so early in my career.
The scope for progression and development at Optical Express is huge. I’ve gained a wide range of experience that I don’t believe I would have got anywhere else, and I’ve been able to pass it on, too. During my time with the company, I’ve supervised and mentored 8 pre-registration Optometrists, so it’s been great to help them develop and flourish.
2017 saw me start working towards my Independent Prescribing qualification. The course is fully funded by Optical Express, and that tells me that the company is invested in its people. I’m now halfway through the course, I’ve learned an incredible amount, and I’m looking forward to what else it has to offer me.
The development opportunities I’ve been given are fantastic, and Optical Express has also offered great flexibility within my role. Since joining the company I’ve had two children, and I’ve been given flexible working hours so that I can spend precious time with my family as well as focusing on my career progression.
Optical Express has been supportive of me since day one. I’ve been able to take advantage of some life-changing opportunities which have led me to become an Optometry Development Manager. I couldn’t be happier in my role. It has been such a rewarding experience. I’ve learned so much more about the business, so I can now support Optometrists both clinically and commercially.
I’m proud to work for a company which not only supports its people, but which also changes patients’ lives for the better. We really do help people see the world more clearly – and I’m speaking from personal experience. I had my own eye surgery performed by the incredible surgeon Jan Venter and now, 7 years later, my vision is still perfect. It’s great to know that this is how our patients feel!
Any Optometrists who are thinking about making a career move should seriously think about joining Optical Express. I’d highly recommend it – it’s a wonderful company where your development and career fulfilment are a top priority.
You’ll be able to achieve professional development, and have the satisfaction of helping patients change their lives, too.
