Our optometrists are at the heart of what we do. Carrying out eye tests on our patients isn’t the only task our optometrists undertake: often the role is much more varied. Here, we take a look at a “typical” day in the life of an optometrist based at one of our clinics.
Eye examinations
Eye tests lie at the core of the service we offer our patients. Thanks to our investment of over £500 million in state of the art technology, our eye exams are clinically thorough. Every patient who undergoes an eye examination at Optical Express receives an exclusive iScan report. This report includes details of the health, prescription and diagnostics of each eye. The iScan report and the specialised computer software required for its compilation were developed by our expert in-house team here at Optical Express.
Consultations
We offer our optometrists the opportunity to add to their current skillset by undertaking full refractive training. This allows them to carry out consultations for patients looking to undergo laser eye surgery or lens surgery. During these consultations, optometrists will make the best recommendation of treatment based on what’s right for the patient.
Post-operative visits
Many of our optometrists who carry out post-operative visits say meeting a patient whose vision has just been drastically improved for life by laser/lens surgery is the best part of the job. Experiencing the joy and happiness of patients as they begin to see perfectly without the aid of glasses and contact lenses, which they have often worn for large parts of their lives, is quite simply, contagious. Our optometrists often speak of feeling pride to have been a part of that journey.
Surgery support
Optometrists who take the surgery support route at Optical Express are a critical part of the team on surgery days. Their role is to create a surgical plan for each eye that is being treated and assisting in the decisions made for each and every surgical case.
